2012 Cyclocross
I am Luke Beemer, and I am a Team WBR Ambassador for 2013. Over the course of this season, my goal is to raise $15,900. This will provide 100 bicycles to students and healthcare workers in rural Africa as well as the training for 10 field mechanics to keep bikes up and running. I am an avid cyclist and race mountain, cyclocross, road, and track. I first started racing in the intro category of a DINO tune up race in the spring of 2010. Now I am a category 1 mountain biker and a category 2 cyclocross racer, and have attended national championships in both disciplines. I have also been involved with Midwest Devo, a regional U23 development team with a great vision for expanding youth cycling. I am currently a senior at Brownsburg High School, and have signed with Marian University and will start there this fall. At Marian I will race mountain, road, and cyclocross. I will participate in a joint-degree program with IUPUI and major in Mechanical Engineering/Mathematics. This year I will I have a packed calendar of racing! I will do most of the DINO mountain bike series, the Barry Roubaix, the WORS Subaru Cup, XC Mountain Bike Nationals, and many other races around the country. For cyclocross, I will do many of the ICX and most of the OVCX races, as well as a few of the USGP races. In addition, I will be racing collegiate mountain bike and cyclocross in the fall/winter, and am planning to go to nationals for both. Another one of my goals is to attend the Euro Cross Camp in Belgium this coming winter. With the help of my sponsors, family, and friends, I want to not only be a competitive racer this year, but give back to the cycling community and change the world through the power of bicycles. For $134, we can provide a student or healthcare worker in Africa a rugged and reliable bicycle that will transform their lives and enable them to significantly empower the future of their community and themselves. The best thing about the gift of a bicycle is that it's not a hand-out; it's a hand-up. These bicycles will go farther than money ever could and will provide a solution to countless problems and create an infrastructure for economic change.
