The Trois Etapes, based in Orelle, France, is the ultimate competitive pro-am cycling experience and took place July 26-29. The event is designed to give riders the chance to experience team cycling under race conditions, with the full support that a pro would have in a Grand Tour, incentivizing tactical team riding. Each team of 8 riders (7 amateurs and 1 pro) has its own team car and Directeur Sportif. Every rider has a radio link with their team car and the Race Director.
2013 marks the second run of Trois Etapes, and Cosaveli, event organizers, put together an amazing event which has raised $2.6 million to date in support of 13 charities (total of 15 participating teams), including World Bicycle Relief. Three World Bicycle Relief teams took part in the event this year; leaving there busy schedules and boardrooms to help raise a minimum of $15,000 per rider for the power of bicycles.
The four-day race took place in the middle of the French Alps. A prologue kicked off the festivities followed by three stages of classic cycling, through some of the most mythical climbs from the Tour de France, like the Col du Glandon, the Col de l’Iseran (the highest paved mountain pass of the Alps), and the Col de la Madeleine (though the latter was part of the last stage that was canceled due to inclement weather).
Over the course of a Prologue and 3 Stages (3rd canceled due to weather), approximately 120 racers went head-to-head on behalf of their charities for a chance to raise awareness for their cause and race for valuable bonus money available to the teams. All three WBR teams finished in the top 10.
We had a wonderful mix of cycling aficionados, top executives, dedicated philanthropists, and amazing ambassadors support and attend the event.

Thanks to the riders’ impressive fundraising efforts and the support from donors encountered at the Trois Etapes event, World Bicycle Relief collected over $490,000 (and counting!), or enough to give over 3,600 new beginnings through the gift of Buffalo Bicycles in the field.
Trois Etapes riders are encouraged to join Evelyn Stevens on the October Africa Rides trip (Oct. 5-13). Learn more >
Special thanks to the Cosaveli team for their wonderful support, to our team drivers J.J. Rowe, Simon Weeks and Steve Smith, to all the wonderful donors who have supported our riders but also our organization before and during the event, and finally a huge thank you goes out to our amateur and pro riders who carried all the weight to make this event so impactful on our programs and recipients in the field. Thank you for showing such a powerful commitment to being part of the change and enabling girls and boys, mothers, farmers and entrepreneurs to dream about a better future.
