Specialized To Match Donations to Rappstar Charity Challenge
A few weeks ago at Ironman Canada, we announced Specialized athlete Jordan Rapp's 5X Strong 5th Annual Rappstar Charity Challenge; now we're adding to that with an incredible update. Jordan aims to raise a record-breaking $100,000, and we are honored to announce that Specialized will match the first $30,000 in donations to his campaign during the week leading into the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Donations made to Rapp's fundraising page between Oct. 7 and Oct. 12 will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the donors' impact while still giving them the opportunity to win a host of prizes donated by Rapp’s sponsors, including a Specialized Shiv dream bike.
“Jordan embodies everything we hold in esteem at Specialized – an accomplished champion, a fighter who has overcome huge obstacles, and a role model off the race course,” said Simon Dunne, Specialized Global Advocacy Manager. “His passion for World Bicycle Relief aligns with our own, so supporting his fundraiser was a no-brainer. Both World Bicycle Relief and Jordan are part of the Specialized family; we all see how powerful the bicycle can be, and Specialized is proud to stand beside these two great partners now and into the future.”
To date, Jordan Rapp has raised over $175,000 for World Bicycle Relief's work, and his $100,000 goal for the 2013 challenge is a significant jump from his 2012 result ($73,000). Rapp wants to reach a noteworthy six-figure mark in celebration of his fifth consecutive fundraiser. Through the Rappstar Charity Challenge, over 3,700 rural Africans could experience the life-changing empowerment of getting their own two wheels.
“At the 2013 IRONMAN World Championship, Jordan Rapp will be racing one of the highest performing bikes in the world, but he’ll be raising money for perhaps the most powerful bike in the world: the bike in the hands of a mother trying to feed her children, or the bike in the hands of a student fighting for her education,” said FK Day, Founder and President of World Bicycle Relief. “Please join us: bring the spirit of the IRONMAN into the lives of individuals in great need and empower them to change their world.”
